Funeral Today For W. T. Powell
Last rites for William T. Powell, 73, resident 14 R Street who died at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Saturday morning after an illness, will be conducted from the Oakwood Baptist Church today at 4 p.m. The Rev. E. C. White and the Rev. Claude Hawkins will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, with the Masons in charge of rites at the graveside.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Charlies Gambrell, Henry Bailey, Pell Gurley, Ripper Thompson, Marlin Thompson, and George Blackwell.
Mr. Powell had lived in Anderson for many years, though a native of Wilkes County, Ga. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, a member of the Garner Memorial Baptist Church, and of the Ruff Lodge No. 240 of Masons.
He is survived by three sons, Walter E. Powell and Robert L. Powell, of Anderson, and T. Albert Powell of Wilmington, N. C.; three daughters, Mrs. A. D. Wilson, Mrs. C. L. Wilson, and Miss Belle Powell of this city. His wife, Mrs. Alice Andrews Powell, died Nov. 20, 1940.
Also surviving are a brother, Albert N. Powell of Danburg, Ga. and sister, Mrs. Ethel Blackmon, also of Danburg; 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
