Obituary of Essie Lois Giddeon Hemmer
Essie Lois Giddeon Hemmer, 88, died Friday, February 5, 2010 in Pensacola. She was born December 2, 1921 in Dothan, AL to William Preston Giddeon and Ada Viola Watson. Throughout her life, Lois was a devoted Christian and over the years was a member of St. John the Evangelist, St. Thomas More and St. Annís churchs.
Lois grew up on a farm in Youngstown, FL. The fourth of seven children, she left home at age fifteen to work in Panama City in order to help support her family. She later moved to Pensacola and married Joe Hemmer. There was much travel during the war as her aviator husband served in the Army Air Force. After the war, she brought her mother and younger siblings to Pensacola. She was devoted to her children and was the heart of a warm, nurturing and lively household. She was creative, inventive, charitable and energetic-and remained that way throughout her life. Lois will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She was a loving wife to Milton J. Hemmer, who preceded her in death, and a wonderful mother to Joseph, Theresa and Michael, who survive her. Her siblings also preceded her in death: sisters, Eunice Giddeon, and Toy Jeanette Manwell; and brothers, Preston, Carl, Wayne and Kenneth Giddeon.
Friends will be welcomed for visitation at 9:00 am, Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Faith Chapel South, 100 Beverly Pkwy.
