     Octogenarian is Called to Rest.

After an illness of about three weeks with the infirmities incident to old age,
three weeks with infirmation due to old age, Mrs. Mary Ann Powell died at the
home of her son, T. J. Powell, near Danburg, Tuesday evening in the 82nd year of her life.

Mrs. Powell's life was one of usefulness and uprighteousness and her
devotion and loyality to the demands of the home and church will always
be a shining mark to be looked up to and followed by the sorrowing members
of her immediate family as well as a wide circle of intimate friends who have
known and loved her thoughout a goodly portion of her long life of more than
four score years.

Surviving her are four children, Mrs. A. S. Lindsey, Floral Hill with whom she
has made her home for a number of years, Mrs. N. J. Brantley of Sparta, Sons,
Mr. W. N. Powell and Mr. T. J. Powell, all of near Danburg. The interment occurred
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Fishing Creek church, the services being
conducted by Rev. H. M. Adams.

Resolution on the Death of Mrs. Mary Ann Powell

Mrs. Mary Ann Powell was born--1827 [1828] and died Mar. 1st 1910 [Feb. 2nd 1910]. She was a consort of Joseph Powell who preceeded her in 1873. Aunt Mary Ann professed religion early in life and died trusting in the faith. She loved her church and attended its services as long as she was able to do so, therefore we hope her spirit is in heaven. Her mind was not so good in the latter part of her life, while she was very feeble in health, which may have been brought on by imprudence. But in many respects Mrs. Powell was a remarkable woman. She was a well preserved woman and kept up well for a woman of her age. She spent a great part of her life in ministering to the sick and was sent for far and near to wait on sick women and children in which capacity she made her self useful. She was kind, sympathetic and better informed than the average of her sex.
Resolved there that we mourn her loss but strive to emulate the good traits in her character. That we extend our sympathies to any others who may mourn her loss and grieved at her departure.
That a copy of this preamble and these resolutions be spread on the minutes of the church. Adopted Mar. 25, 1910. O.L.F.C.C.

Other Powell's are also buried there. There is a Powell Cemetery located
between Danburg and Floral Hill. "There are several graves here and at one
time there were markers with names and dates, but they are gone now. It is
on the Old Powell homeplace and several people from Danburg know that Mr.
Powell's first wife was buried here and remember the marker for her grave.
We could not find it." From Nell Harris Newsome's "Wilkes County Cemeteries
and a Few from Adjoining Counties."

In the Turner Cemetery located between Floral Hill and Fishing Creek are the
Powell infants of Deborah Turner Powell and Joseph Thomas Powell, son of
Joseph Powell and Mary Ann Powell.
